Geeta Aiyer, CFA, President/CIO U.S. Strategies/Portfolio Management
Working as a portfolio manager for individuals and institutions allows Geeta to combine her commitment to sustainability with her training and experience in investment theory and finance. Geeta was formerly President of the Walden Asset Management division of the United States Trust Company of Boston. She has worked with investments for 25 years. Geeta’s prior work experience includes tenure with United States Trust Co. Boston and Cambridge Associates as well as public administration and rural development in India. She has founded two prior companies, Walden Capital Management (1994) and East India Spice (1987). She received her MBA from Harvard University and her BA and MA degrees from the University of Delhi, India. Geeta serves on the boards of the Worldwatch Institute and the New England Foundation for the Arts.
Matt Zalosh, CFA, Portfolio Management/CIO International Strategies/Securities Research
Matt is responsible for investment research in the financial services and healthcare sectors. Matt began his career at State Street Research and Management in Boston over 10 years ago. From 1997 to 2001, he worked at Dodge & Cox in San Francisco, where he covered banks and REITS and helped the firm launch its international mutual fund. Matt received his BA, cum laude, in Economics and International Studies from Colby College, and has an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he specialized in emerging markets and worked on development consulting projects in Mexico and Ecuador. He currently serves on the board of Primary Source, a non-profit dedicated to professional development for educators with a focus on global understanding.
Carol Malnick, Portfolio Management
Carol provides portfolio management services to our high net worth and institutional clients, and has established Boston Common’s presence on the West Coast. With over 24 years of experience, Carol has managed socially responsible investment portfolios at Trainer Wortham (a division of First Republic Bank), Nelson Capital Management, Harris Bretall, and most recently with Stanford Investment Group. Carol received her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has served on numerous national and community boards, including the Northern California Community Loan Fund and the Social Investment Forum.
Praveen Abichandani, CFA, Securities Research
Praveen brings nearly 20 years of investment analysis experience in equity research and corporate development in the telecom & media industries. Before joining Boston Common, he served as an equity analyst at Fidelity Investments, Citigroup Asset Management, and a hedge fund. While at Fidelity, Praveen managed the Select Industrial Equipment fund for two years and the Select Advisor Electronics fund for a year. At Citigroup Asset Management, Praveen was responsible for equity research of the global semiconductor sector. During his business development career at Cox Communications and GTE Wireless, Praveen worked extensively on projects in Mexico. He has also lived and worked in Japan and Germany early in his career at GTE. Praveen received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and his BS in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University in India.
Nancy Spady, CFA, Securities Research/Firm Management
Nancy brings more than 20 years of investment experience to Boston Common. She was an analyst and co-portfolio manager for a large investment firm in the Midwest, ultimately becoming a Managing Director. Previously, Nancy was voted an Institutional Investor All-America Research Team Runner-up in two financial services categories while working on Wall Street. In addition, Nancy gained experience managing a broad range of investments for a significant family office in Illinois, including real estate and private equity transactions. Nancy received her MBA from Harvard University and her BA, with honors, from Swarthmore College. She currently volunteers as a reading mentor for elementary school children.
Margien Tolson, CFA, Securities Research
Margien, who works out of Boston Common's West Coast office, has over 20 years of experience in equity research and portfolio management. Previously, she worked at Stanford Investment Group, and for Trainer Wortham, a division of First Republic Bank, as a portfolio manager. Margien served first as Director of Research and then as Chief Investment Officer at Nelson Capital Management and worked at RCM Capital Management in both portfolio management and research positions. Margien received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from the University of San Francisco.
Nathan Foley-Mendelssohn, CFA, Investment Research/Portfolio Management
Nathan conducts fundamental investment research in the Energy sector and in segments of the Financials sector. He also builds quantitative screening and analytical tools in support of the investment process, and oversees the implementation of our fixed income strategies. Nathan received his BA degree, with honors, in History and International Relations from Harvard University, and worked previously as a scientific computer programmer at an oceanographic laboratory in California.
Steven Heim, ESG Research/Shareholder Engagement
Steven is primarily responsible for ESG research on domestic and international companies and for our shareholder engagement work, and he has over 17 years experience in the SRI field. In collaboration with Geeta Aiyer, he has contributed to the book The SRI Advantage: Why Socially Responsible Investing Has Outperformed Financially (New Society Publishers, 2002). Steven received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Steven was a licensed foster parent for 8 years. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group for 15 years. Steven served for three years as the Co-Chair of the Global Warming Working Group of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility. He serves on the Steering Committees of the Social Investment Forum's Sustainable Investment Research Analyst Network and the Indigenous Peoples Working Group.
Lauren Compere, Client Administration/Compliance/Shareholder Engagement
Lauren is primarily responsible for working with clients invested in Boston Common subadvisory strategies and has day-to-day oversight of Boston Common’s sub-advisory relationships. Lauren also coordinates Boston Common’s international shareholder engagement initiatives has over 20 years of experience in the SRI field. Lauren received her BA in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont, Cum Laude, and her MS in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University. She has completed the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Certificate Program at Boston University. Lauren served as the Co-Chair of the Access to Health Working Group (2005-2008) and the Human Trafficking subcommittee (2006-2008) of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR). She is currently Co-Chair of the Social Investment Forum’s International Working Group and the Emerging Markets Disclosure Project.
Dawn Wolfe, ESG Research/Shareholder Engagement
Dawn conducts ESG research on domestic and international companies and aids in our shareholder engagement effort. Prior to joining Boston Common, Dawn worked as an account executive and development consultant for non-profit organizations across the U.S. Dawn has a history of interest in human rights and labor. She has served as a journalist in Chile covering human rights abuses there. She has researched employment issues in the NAFTA countries with a heavy emphasis on Mexico, where she spent time with the Foreign Affairs Ministry working on economic competitiveness issues. She received her BA in Communications and Spanish from Santa Clara University and her MA in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins University, where she specialized in emerging market finance and Latin American political economy.
Constantina Bichta, PhD, ESG Research
Constantina works with the Social Research Team on the research process and she conducts ESG research on domestic and international companies. Prior to Boston Common, Constantina worked as a Consultant in the UK for eight years, where she advised both corporate and public sector clients on sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility issues, focusing on how to develop CSR policies and communicate sustainability. Constantina holds a Master’s in Social Research and a PhD in Management from the University of Bath, UK. She is also a Senior Lecturer at the Northeastern University, where she teaches about the role of human values in our fast developing technological world.
Kristin Jenko, Client Service/Marketing
Kristin services clients invested in our internally managed strategies and works in collaboration with the marketing team. Prior to joining Boston Common, she was an Event Coordinator and Sales and Marketing Assistant for The Lavin Agency, an international speakers bureau in the corporate and university markets. Kristin received a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and volunteers with local, nonprofits organizations, including Mssng Lnks, a grassroots collective dedicated to the education of young, urban vocalists, and The Knitting Connection, a nonprofit distributing hand-knitted winter clothing to children in need.
Alexander Jovanovic, Client Service/Marketing
Alex is primarily responsible for servicing clients invested in Boston Common’s internally managed strategies and coordinating Boston Common’s marketing efforts. He received his BA, magna cum laude, from Tufts University with a double major in International Relations and Economics. Prior to joining Boston Common, Alex worked as a Marketing Assistant for the Tufts University Summer Programs Office, where he conducted marketing research and worked on publications. Since 2004 he has served as vice-president on the executive board of St. Sava Church in Cambridge, MA. Alex is a life-long recreational Serbian folk dancer, most recently performing with the Grachanitsa Folk Dance Ensemble of Boston from 2003-2005.
Regan Royston, Operations
Regan is primarily responsible for portfolio accounting and operations. She also assists Emmanuel Sabiiti with trading and serves as the firm’s backup trader. With over 20 years of experience working in the investment industry, she has held many different roles at various firms including Operations Manager, Director of Systems, Trader and Compliance Officer. Regan received her B.S in Finance from Northeastern University. She is actively involved in fundraising activities for various non-profit organizations in her community.
Emmanuel Sabiiti, Portfolio Associate/Trading
Emmanuel is primarily responsible for in-house portfolio operations, and trading on our equity and balanced accounts. Emmanuel also provides client service on our International Index accounts. Before joining Boston Common, Emmanuel interned both at Meyer Capital Partners in Connecticut as a Research Assistant, and at Burchfield Resources LLC, a venture capital firm in Vermont. Emmanuel received his BA from Middlebury College with a major in Mathematics and a minor in French. Emmanuel volunteers as a class agent for his Middlebury graduation class, and serves Treasurer on the board of We Bead Connected, a non-profit based in Colorado that’s focused on improving the lives of HIV positive women in Uganda.
Elena Togashi, Client Service/Marketing
Elena works on the client service team for our international clients. She also assists with marketing and ESG research and advocacy. Prior to joining Boston Common, Elena worked as a corporate client manager and a prime broker for Goldman Sachs. She worked in the foreign exchange division in the New York and Tokyo offices. Elena received her BA from Brown University, with a concentration in International Relations focusing on political economy and development and is an MBA candidate at Boston College.
Caitlyn Phan, Client Service/Marketing
Caitlyn services clients and works in collaboration with the marketing team. Prior to joining Boston Common, Caitlyn was a wealth management associate at Vodia Capital where she provided client services and conducted research. She also volunteered as a grant writer and researcher at New Generation Energy, a non-profit organization that provides affordable capital to renewable energy projects. Caitlyn received her BA from Amherst College where she studied English and European Art and History.
Tricia Whiffen, Operations/Trading
Tricia is primarily responsible for portfolio accounting and operations as well as trade settlement. She has 20 years of experience working on both the Custodian and Investment sides of the industry. Her career began at the Bank of Boston where she held operational, administrative and supervisory positions. For the past ten years, Tricia has worked for several investment firms, most recently Trillium Asset Management. Tricia is actively involved in her local church and serves on its Finance Committee. She has also volunteered for over 15 years to two local organizations - Friend's of Boston's Homeless and The Alzheimer's Association.
Kate Lyons, Office Manager/Administrator
Kate supports the entire Boston Common Team, including the Marketing, Operations, and ESG Research departments. Prior to joining Boston Common, she spent five years at the Archdiocese of Boston as a Real Estate and Insurance Associate, working directly with the Director of Parish and School Services. Kate also worked for Cambridge Associates as Administrator for the Marketable Manager Research Group. She received her BA in Psychology from Assumption College in Worcester, MA.
Kate Poverman, Chief Compliance Officer
Kate is responsible for overseeing Boston Common Asset Management’s compliance policies and procedures, helping to maintain the company’s high ethical standards and its focus on best industry practices. Kate graduated from the Law School at the University of Chicago in 1986. After practicing complex financial and securities litigation in Chicago for several years, she moved to Boston and joined the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as senior enforcement counsel. By the time she left the SEC, she had become the Assistant District Administrator of Enforcement of the Boston office.
Marykelly Smith, Controller
Marykelly is responsible for the management of the financial operations of the firm. Before joining Boston Common, Marykelly worked at the Boston law firm of Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP in various financial roles including Controller for most of her seventeen years there. Marykelly received her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Boston College. She actively volunteers her time to several organizations including St. Joseph Parish and School in Stoneham, MA.
