From the Team
Stewardship priorities shifted meaningfully in 2025 as companies navigated a rapidly changing landscape marked by artificial intelligence, climate transition, geopolitical uncertainty, and evolving stakeholder expectations. These developments shaped Boston Common Asset Management’s engagement program throughout the year and reinforced the importance of active ownership for investment oversight and long-term risk management.
Through collaborative initiatives, proxy voting, shareholder proposals, policy engagement, and direct company engagement, we join the broader community of active shareowners seeking to promote strong governance, effective risk management, and transparent disclosure on issues that may influence long-term business performance and resilience. In 2025, we observed improvements in practices and new corporate commitments across these areas, while also identifying where further engagement can be effective.
This report summarizes our stewardship activities for calendar year 2025, the priorities that guided our engagement efforts, examples of company dialogue and progress, and the issues that remain central to our program in 2026.
We appreciate the trust our clients place in us and the opportunity to undertake this work on their behalf.
Company developments described in this report occurred during the period of our engagement but should not be assumed to have resulted from Boston Common’s activities. Where we believe our engagement contributed to a development, we describe the basis for that assessment.

Human Rights and Responsible AI
Our stewardship efforts in this area focus on the workforce, human rights, and governance practices that support business competitiveness and sustainable economic growth. We engage companies on human capital management, responsible AI governance, human rights risks across global value chains, and the systems needed to protect workers, consumers, and communities in a rapidly changing economy.
In 2025, our engagement program focused on four areas:
- Responsible AI Governance & Human Rights
- Human Capital Management in the United States
- Japan Company Engagement
- Human Rights in Global Supply Chains

Health and Well-being
Human health and well-being are supported by companies that develop and market safe, high-quality products while responsibly managing their environmental and community impacts. In 2025, we prioritized sustainable chemicals management, with particular attention to how chemical exposure affects workers, communities, consumers, and other populations at elevated risk throughout the product lifecycle.
