As a long-standing member of the the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), Boston Common Asset Management is delighted to have worked with ICCR to develop the attached investor statement, urging companies to proactively address human trafficking and modern day slavery through individual and collaborative action.  As a signatory, Boston Common calls on other faith-based and sustainable and responsible investors to endorse this investor statement.

For the last eight years, Boston Common has demonstrated leadership through sustainable and responsible investments (SRI) and shareholder engagement work in addressing human trafficking and modern day slavery.  For instance, we were the first SRI firm in the U.S. to successfully work with a U.S. hotel chain to adopt a policy that specifically addresses these issues.

In addition to our work on Human Trafficking, we continue our direct engagement with global companies on conflict minerals and also helped to coordinate investor feedback on the new SEC Conflict Minerals Disclosure rules under the Dodd Frank Act (Section 1502).  In 2010, Boston Common’s Lauren Compere was recognized for her leadership by the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility for her work related to this issue.

For more information on the investor statement or Boston Common’s engagement work, please contact Lauren Compere, Director of Shareholder Engagement at lcompere@bostoncommonasset.com.  Ms. Compere serves on the Governing Board of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility and coordinates Boston Common’s global shareholder engagement work.
