As a member of Boston Common’s investment team, Joana is responsible for communicating the firm’s approach to socially-minded portfolio construction to clients and prospects. Joana brought more than 25 years of experience in emerging market and developed international equities when she joined Boston Common in 2021.

Joana previously spent four years as an Investment Officer at Mountain Pacific Group, an international equities and global currency manager. She also served in various capacities at Ashmore Group, a specialist emerging markets asset manager, that culminated in her role as Equity Product Manager. Joana began her buy-side career in 2001 as a marketing manager for Emerging Markets Management, LLC (EMM). She helped raise assets and manage clients in the institutional marketplace before Ashmore acquired EMM in 2011. Joana earlier gained emerging markets equities sell-side experience with JP Morgan Chase via its acquisition of Fleming Martin/Robert Fleming Inc.

A member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Washington, DC, Joana earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BSc Admin from University of Ghana. In her free time, she volunteers with religious and educational organizations and enjoys subjecting her family to her culinary experiments.
