Steven Heim

Steven’s work has helped shape BCAM’s Socially Responsible Investment Framework and research. He directs select initiatives on the Just Transition, sustainable solar, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights. 

Over 35+ years, Steven has held leadership roles on numerous industry committees and working groups spanning climate change, renewable energy, extractive industries, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights. In 2023, he received ICCR’s Legacy Award for his success in influencing corporate practices. Since 2010, he has helped develop sustainable standards for the solar industry. From 2007 to 2019, he chaired the advocacy committee of the Investors and Indigenous Peoples Working Group, leading investor engagement. From 2013 to 2019, he co-authored editions of “Disclosing the Facts: Transparency and Risk in Hydraulic Fracturing Operations” with As You Sow and the Investor Environmental Health Network. This and other engagement efforts helped drive industry-wide improvements in oil and gas companies’ environmental practices. 

Steven earned two BS degrees from MIT. He serves on the OrganicEye board and is treasurer of Cultural Survival’s board. He also serves on the finance committee of the International Funders for Indigenous Peoples, after six years on its board. Steven lives with his wife in Montpelier, Vermont; his two daughters and five grandchildren live nearby.
